Who is "Checkerboard Steve"?

That's his real legal name. There are many stories about why he is named Checkerboard. Cincinnati native, multi-instrumentalist and music enthusiast. After checking out the music scene in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and chasing dreams for awhile, eventually he ended up back in Cincinnati. Nerve damage prevents him from playing most instruments, so he decided that he can still contribute to the music community by hosting a radio show that helps promote local music.

WHAT?

THE BAND AID has a very plain & simple mission statement... HELP LOCAL BANDS & PROMOTE LOCAL MUSIC. Our show airs 100% local music. We only play original local music and "re-makes" on the air. Click HERE to submit your band's info. Our show consists of airplay, interviews, live (in-studio) performances. This show is not religious, political, or controversial.

WHEN?

"THE BAND AID" is a weekly radio program airing on 88.3 WAIF in Cincinnati, and streaming world-wide at www.waifradio.org/listen. THE BAND AID airs live on Tuesday evenings 8:00-10:00pm. Stay posted for a new time slot.

WHERE?

Currently, all shows are live from our studio in historic East Walnut Hills, in Cincinnati. We hope to be able to do some live remotes this Summer

WHY?

This radio show is new to Cincinnati, but the concept has been around for a long time...

In the 1950's, there were people like "Wolfman Jack" and "The Big Bopper" that would spin new music that people sent in. In the 80's & 90's, there was a local radio station (WEBN) that would produce an "Album Project" every year to highlight Cincinnati bands & music. It led to the success a lot of local bands. They did this for several years. At the same time, there was a public radio station (Just like this one) in Los Angeles. KNAC played metal and glam rock. KNAC was responsible for a lot of LA rock bands getting signed to major labels. LA bands would submit their material for possible airplay. There was also this guy named "Eddie Trunk" that would help bands with airplay and interviews. Meanwhile, In Las Vegas, Kevin DuBrow (Yeah, the Quiet Riot dude) hosted a program on KOMP that would promote local music.

IT'S TIME FOR CINCINNATI TO HAVE THIS RESOURCE TOO!

THE RIGHT SONG, THE RIGHT NOTE, AT THE RIGHT TIME FOR THE RIGHT PERSON CAN CHANGE THE WORLD FOREVER.
